Indian Head Massage

What is Indian Head Massage?

Indian Head Massage does not just focus on the head, as the name implies, the treatment is carried out on the upper back, shoulders, upper arms, neck and scalp - the treatment is finished off with a facial acupressure routine, which includes massage of the ears.

Indian Head Massage is a form of massage therapy created in India over a thousand years ago and has been practiced in the UK for approximately the last 30 years.

Through a variety of different techniques, the massage works to release any blocked negative energy in the body that may be manifesting itself in the body as disease or injury.

An Indian Head Massage is the ideal way to get yourself away from everyday emotional and mental stress, as it promotes relaxation, helps with stress relief and gives an uplifting feeling of wellbeing.

What to expect from your session

An Indian Head Massage lasts approximately 30-40 minutes.

The initial treatment starts with a short consultation where we talk about you, your lifestyle, current symptoms or conditions and medical history, all of which is totally confidential.

During the consultation we will discuss your preferences, such as; would you like to use oils in the treatment, are there any areas of the treatment you would prefer me not to do (for example, some people do not enjoy the facial acupressure and some people do not like their ears being touched).

If you would like oils with the treatment I will leave the room while you remove upper body outer layers of clothing (e.g. for ladies remove tops/blouses etc and keep brassier on) - lower body clothing will be left on - and you will wrap a towel around your body, covering your modesty.

When oils are used, please be aware that you will not be ‘camera-ready’, as the oils are massaged into your scalp and hair, to encourage improved condition – also, after using oils, it is advised that when you first wash your hair, always put shampoo on hair before water, as the oil tends to coagulate/congeal, but I will re-explain this when I discuss after care with you.

If you prefer the treatment without oils, the treatment will be carried out over your clothes, although I would suggest that the treatment is more beneficial with oils, as the massage is deeper and hence more relaxing to the client.

The majority of the treatment is carried out with you seated on a standard chair, which allows access to your upper back and shoulders – the facial acupressure part of the routine is carried out with you laying on the therapist couch, encouraging further relaxation.

The standard routine covers back, shoulders, upper arms, neck, scalp and face - if parts of this are not enjoyable to you, just let me know and we can adjust the routine to suit your needs.

After the treatment is complete, I will give you time to relax, offer you water to drink and we will discuss after care advice and treatment plan.
